Kim Foxx Visits Juarez

Monday, December 16

On Monday, December 16 at 5:30 P.M., Juarez will host State's Attorney for Cook County Kim Foxx and Alderman Sigcho-Lopez. The visit is an opportunity to hear from State’s Attorney Foxx about issues impacting our community and how the State’s Attorney’s Office is working to make a safer, stronger Cook County. Students from our Student Voice Committee and our Civics classes will meet and greet our special guest and will assist with questions from the audience.

Mexican Consulate and Benito Juárez

During the month of December, Our Parent University has partnered with the Mexican Consulate, specifically with the Consul of Community, Ms. Sandra Patricia Mendoza Durán and Resurrection Project, in a series of financial workshops to bring awareness and resources to our community. Parents are learning about all the services offered by the consulate. One of the services offered is the dual citizenship. Parents are learning about the process to review documents so that parents can apply for dual citizenship process for them or their children born in this country.

Student Voice Committee and Aramark

On Wednesday, December 11, during Enrichment, students engaged in conversation with our food service provider, Aramark. For about a year and a half prior, student leaders and Civics classes have been working on ways to improve student lunch at Juarez. This Wednesday 12/11 several leaders from CPS and Aramark came to meet with 40 students from the Student Voice Committee. The student leaders shared feedback on meals and demanded a clear timeline for Aramark to deliver a larger variety of quality food options. Aramark leaders gave us a list of new items to be served this January and February. They clarified the steps students should take if they have dietary restrictions and openly apologized for the occasions that students have been fed problematic items. They informed us that all students should return problematic items to the kitchen staff so that problems can be reported and addressed. We will also work with Aramark staff in order to create a clear way for students to give feedback on meals so that students can more often see the items they like, and so that Aramark can phase out items that students do not like. Congratulations to the Student Voice Committee on such a successful meeting!  We will continue to work in partnership with CPS and Aramark to hold them accountable for providing tasty and nutritious meals and participating in open communication with students. We appreciate the time district leaders took to come and hear our concerns.

JROTC City-wide Drill Competition:

On Saturday, December 14, 2019, CPS, Department of JROTC conducted its Masters Division Drill Competition at Carver Military Academy to determine the top five Platoon Drill Teams, top five Color Guards, the top five Platoon Inspection Teams, the top five Platoon Leaders and the top 5 Individual Rifle Drill Competitors in both the Junior Division and Senior Division.  The Juarez Drill Team demonstrated extreme poise and confidence and executed very well in all categories of this annual competition but was unable to accumulate sufficient scoring to bring home a victory. Their hard work and dedication to the program should be recognized and celebrated.
