JROTC at Juarez
Monday, September 23
CPS, Department of JROTC conducted its City Corps Staff Commissioning and Commander Recognition ceremony on Friday, September 20, 2019. Among those representing and making Juarez proud were Cadet Colonel Jonathan Rodriguez, Cadet First Sergeant Yotzin Tzintzun, and Cadet First Lieutenant Jarred Manjarez. Cadets Rodriguez and Tzintzun, along with 19 other cadets from around the city, officially became members of the City Corps Staff during the ceremony. The City Corps Staff serves as the cadet leadership for more than 10, 000 cadets enrolled in CPS JROTC programs. To be selected, cadets appeared before two interview boards and were required to demonstrate their leadership skills during two weeks of JROTC Cadet Leadership Camp at St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy.
Cadet Manjarez was also recognized as the Cadet Company Commander for Benito Juarez.
Juarez Student Voice Committee Participates in Panel Discussion with School Leaders

On September 18, seven students from our Student Voice Committee were invited by CPS to speak to a group of school district leaders from around the country. Adrian Sermeno, Don Brewer, Eula Ferrell, Anayely Rejes-Trejo, Fabiola Paredes, Nancy Flores, and Aysha Salameh did a wonderful job sharing their perspectives and the benefits and challenges involved on the journey toward student real student voice. We have so much to be proud of! The facilitator of the discussion closed by telling the students that sharing their perspectives will really lead to better practices around the country. Our students really did a great job!
Boys Soccer Reaches New Milestone

The Juarez boys soccer team reached a new milestone. Last week the team took second place in the Windy City Classic Soccer Tournament. This was the first time ever that the Juarez team had participated in this tournament, an tournament that is by invitation only. Juarez became the only CPS school to have ever made it this far.
