What is IB?
IB stands for International Baccalaureate (IB), an international
organization that helps schools like ours establish academically
challenging and balanced programs that prepare students for
success in college and life beyond.
The IB Mission
The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring,
knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a
better and more peaceful world through intercultural
understanding and respect.
To this end, the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to
develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
Why the IB is different?
The International Baccalaureate, through its partnership with Juarez, aims to do more than other curricula by developing inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who are motivated to succeed.
The IB is different from other curricula because it:
encourages students to think critically and challenge what they are told
is independent of governments and national systems, and therefore able to incorporate best practice from a range of international frameworks and curricula
encourages students to consider both their local and international environment.
Best practice from a range of curricula
Unlike a national curriculum, IB programmes reflect the best practice of a range of different educational frameworks and curricula. It encourages students to be internationally-minded and to think beyond their immediate environment.
The International Baccalaureate offers a continuum of international education. The programmes encourage both personal and academic achievement, challenging students to excel in their studies and in their personal development.
In order to teach IB programmes, schools must be authorized. Every school authorized to offer IB programmes is known as an IB World School.
Benito Juarez Community Academy became an authorized IB World School in February of 2015.
